Thank you for your interest in Sacramento City College Athletics. We are extremely proud of our College and the high quality of our athletic programs. We support 18 intercollegiate teams and approximately 500 student athletes here at Sacramento City and believe that we offer an incredible opportunity for our student athletes to realize their full potential both academically and athletically.
We are especially thankful this year, as our College is celebrating our 100th Anniversary. As the 7tholdest community college in California, we are also entering our 95th year of offering intercollegiate athletic opportunities to student athletes.
I believe that Sacramento City College Athletics has never been stronger. Of our 18 intercollegiate teams, 17 of them are coached by full-time faculty coaches. We have a full-time athletic academic counselor dedicated to the academic progress of our student athletes. We have three full-time athletic trainers. We now have student athlete priority registration, allowing them access to the courses that will best help them meet their educational goal objectives. Our athletic facilities, which include iconic Hughes Stadium, are on a par with any community college in the state, if not the nation.
Our coaching staff is dedicated to the academic and athletic achievement of our student athletes - In alphabetical order, our head and full-time coaches are: Julia Allender in women's basketball; Marisa Avendano in women's cross country and track; Rob Dewar in men's cross country and track; Dave Griffin in men's/women's tennis; Steve Hanson in women's water polo and men's/women's swimming; Andrew Jones in men's basketball; Tim Kiernan in softball; Laurie Nash in volleyball; Jang-Ha Oh in soccer; Dave Pacheco in wrestling; Michael Thomas in golf; Derek Sullivan and Deskaheh Bomberry in baseball; and Dannie Walker and John Herlihy in football.
While our success as an athletic program is, ultimately, determined by both the on and off field success of our student athletes, we are also very aware of the support given to us by our great alumni and fans/friends of our programs. It is with this in mind that we are re-forming our Panther Club.
By joining our Panther Club, you will receive periodic emails and updates regarding our teams, student athletes, coaches and friends of the program. We hope to keep you informed regarding the activities and accomplishments of Panther athletics.
Thanks to all of you and GO PANTHERS!
