Women's Soccer Team Crashes the Party; SCC Panthers Nationally Ranked!
The September 16 national rankings from the United Soccer Coaches Association are out, and there is a newcomer to the list. With a non-conference record of 8-0-1, the Sac City Panthers find themselves ranked 19th in the country among the Junior College DIII schools. Additionally, the team's 8 wins are second most in the country at all Junior College levels. This is the first time in school history that the Panthers have been nationally ranked. The Panthers, whose roster includes just 4 sophomores among the 24 players, averages 4.22 goals per game, while allowing just 0.78 goals. Freshman midfielder Nataly Barraza leads the team with 23 points (8 goals, 7 assists), while freshman forward Kezya Alfrez-Perez (21 points) has scored a team-high 10 goals. Freshman forward Ayren Rapp has produced 14 points (4 goals and 6 assists), and sophomore midfielder Halina Ilejay has added 9 assists and a pair of goals. Violeta Ruiz Arenas has manned the goal for every minute, recording 5 shutouts while allowing just 8 goals against.
