Panthers Make History: Edinburgh & Young Break and Set National Assist Record in Same Season!
Sacramento City College women's basketball etched its name into the national record books this season as guards Leilani Edinburgh and Madeline Young became the first duo in history to both set and then break the National Single-Game Assists Record in the same season.
The historic run began when Leilani Edinburgh broke a long-standing national mark originally set by Raven Gary of Kishwaukee College during the 2010–11 season. Gary's record of 19 assists in a single game had stood untouched for 16 years.
On Thursday, January 8, 2026, Edinburgh delivered a performance for the ages, recording 20 assists vs. Diablo Valley College, becoming the first player in Sacramento City College program history to reach 20 assists in a game and establishing a new National Record in the process.
Just weeks later, history was made once again.
Madeline Young surpassed that newly set national mark with a sensational performance of her own, tallying 23 assists on Friday, February 6, 2026, also against Diablo Valley College. With that outing, Young not only broke the national single-game assists record set by her teammate, but also became the second Panther in program history this season to record a 20+ assist game.
Together, Young and Edinburgh have cemented their place in the history books and now hold the #1 and #2 spots on the nation's all-time single-game assist list.
Even more remarkably, the duo becomes the first guards in 3C2A and NJCAA history to set and break the same national record in the same season, a feat that underscores both individual excellence and the unselfish, team-first style of Panther basketball.
Congratulations to Madeline Young and Leilani Edinburgh on an unforgettable season and a historic achievement that will be remembered for generations.
