Santa Rosa comes from behind to beat the Panthers 7-5; Murphy had 3 RBIs and Wilson went 2x5
Santa Rosa Rallies Past Sac City, 7–5, Behind Summers' Blast and Herrguth's 3-RBI Double
Santa Rosa College continued its Big 8 dominance Friday afternoon, coming from behind to beat Sacramento City, 7–5, at home. The Bear Cubs improved to 35–1 overall and 20–1 in conference play, extending their winning streak to 15 games.
Despite falling behind early, Santa Rosa used timely hitting, disciplined at-bats, and lockdown relief pitching to take control midway through the game and hold off a late push from the Panthers.
Sac City Strikes First
Sacramento City (21–19, 12–12) capitalized on a third-inning miscue to put up four runs—three unearned—highlighted by a two-run double from Brenden Murphy and RBI hits from Tyson Mayberry and Levi Sotomayor. The Panthers looked poised to upset the state's top-ranked squad, going up 4–1 early.
Summers Sparks the Comeback
J.T. Summers jump-started Santa Rosa's rally in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run—his third of the season—cutting the deficit to one. Moments earlier, Cooper Wood had crossed home on a wild pitch. The momentum carried into the sixth.
Herrguth Delivers the Big Blow
After tying the game on a bases-loaded walk, Ayden Herrguth broke it wide open with a three-run double to the gap in right-center, giving Santa Rosa a 7–4 lead. That proved to be the difference as the Bear Cubs held steady the rest of the way.
Bullpen Slams the Door
Right-hander Raul Valdivia (W, 1–0) was solid in long relief, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing just one run. Caleb Okada entered in the eighth and recorded a six-out save—his first of the year—while striking out four.
